Rezo’s House

Rezo’s house in Talaria is, much like the other Talarian houses, basically a glorified shoebox. I’ll hopefully try drawing the layout and interior at some point but for now, you get words. It’s shaped like a rectangle and only has 2.5 rooms; the main room, which is a combination living area and kitchen, a loft bedroom, and the bathroom. The bathroom is built at the back of the house and the loft above it is where Rezo lays out his futon at night.

The kitchen is built into the right side of the house and consists of some counter space with a mini fridge, sink, and cupboards built into it, and a stove. There isn’t much oven space which is probably for the best because if you had something baking in there for more than like ten minutes the entire house would wind up roasting. (Admittedly, this would probably be a bonus in the winter.)

The kitchen is stocked with various basics such as rice, canned vegetables, potatoes, cheese, etc. They are slowly being overtaken by Insta Cup Noodles as he discovers that those are a thing. There is also tea available.

There are a few built-in overhead lights (two in the main room, one in the bathroom) which Rezo never uses for obvious reasons. He also has a battery operated lamp he stole from the blanket sharing event in his TDM.

There are various other necessities and conveniences such as tools, kitchen equipment, cleaning supplies, emergency supplies, etc. Rezo favors stuff that doesn't require electricity as that's what he's familiar with, although his house does have outlets and is on the grid.

The most interesting detail of his house is probably the front door. The door has a stained glass window depicting a stylized sunrise. While he can’t see it, Rezo is aware it’s there and it’s actually a factor in why he picked this house, as it reminds him of the temples and shrines from his old world.

Apart from that there are shockingly few personal details, nor any decorations.

Rezo’s Class

TW: Self-harm.

Rezo’s class at Baba Yaga teaches what his world refers to as “white magic,” which is a branch of shamanistic magic- magic that calls upon the powers of the natural world- defined by its effects. Healing spells are the most quintessential facet of white magic but it also covers protective and exorcism magic, and a few oddities such as Lighting or Lock. (Lighting creates a ball of light, Lock… locks things.)

Besides learning how to cast the spells themselves, the course teaches:

  • A basic understanding of magic theory in Rezo’s world and the concepts of incantations, communing with outside powers, personal magic capacity, planes of reality, etc. This will all be fairly surface level. Expect to be doing some meditation work as well.

  • Practical knowledge of anatomy, sickness, and hygiene, as an understanding of that is important to know where, when, how, and what kind of healing magic to apply to a situation. (Improperly applied white magic can actually worsen a person’s condition.)

  • A bit of historical knowledge regarding the development of white magic from his world. (The gist is that it was developed as a replacement for holy magic and is still associated with the gods of his world, although he’ll explain that white magic doesn’t actually draw upon their power and that he does not remotely expect any of his students to align themselves with his god.)

  • Uncomfortably enough, he will sometimes deliberately give himself minor injuries so that students can practice their healing abilities on him.

As a teacher, Rezo is patient with students who are slow or struggling, but has little tolerance for slacking off. He expects students to give their best efforts in class, regardless of how much talent they may have or not have for the subject.

By the end of the course, passing students should be able to cast a variety of standard white magic spells including Recovery, Detoxify, Flow Break, Vas Grood, Extball, Lighting, Lock, etc.
